What inspired the brand name?
Get asked this a lot. To be honest, I just came up with a name and it stuck. Wanted something simple and memorable, and it turned out to be SWUNE. Still developing the meaning through what product we put out.
At what moment did you realize you wanted to start a brand?
The name was originally for a blog that focused on tech, design, and clothing but I became more interested in the clothing aspect and turned it into its own brand. Haven’t looked back since.
What helps you get over creative blocks?
I work on different projects in order to overcome creative blocks, ill try to make music, video, or take photos. Another thing that works is to put headphones on and take a walk. Just step away from what you are stuck on. Good quote - "People often think that they need motivation to continue to make things or make progress. In reality, discipline is what creates motivation"
What is the biggest mistake you have made?
We didn’t even have the product in hand before we launched our first drop online. The print shop we worked with was extremely overpriced and the quality of the product was not up to par. Make sure to order samples BEFORE releasing!
What is the biggest success you have had?
Haven’t had too many huge successes, its been a steady grind running this brand. One of my favorite moments had to be our first big photoshoot for our Spiral Tees back in September. Pics came out great and lots of cool people came through.
A source of inspiration people may find weird?
MUSIC. I will play a beat that I love on loop and start designing. You can see the music transfer into the final product of the clothes.
Favorite color to use?
Mainly neutral colors with hints of yellow, orange, and blue.
Are there any retail shops you would love to see you brand in?
Not interested in retail right now, online is where its at. Would love to do a pop-up shop at some point though.
Another Brand that inspires you and why?
Helmut Lang, Acne Studios, Yeezy. Love how these brands focus on minimalism and quality/silhouettes rather than screen printed designs.
Where do you see yourself and the brand in 1 year and 5 years?
In 1 Year I want to be able to hype up a release and sell through the product. I’m not motivated by the money… I just want to be able to continue to create product and improve the quality while doing so. 5 Years… who knows. We’ll see where it goes.
