When it comes to New York institutions, few spots have stayed as true to their DNA as Tip Top Shoes. Known for its old-school service—necktie-wearing staff, sit-and-fit fittings, and that iconic "your feet are in good hands" ethos—Tip Top’s roots go deeper than most. With a legacy that includes serving John Lennon, James Gandolfini, and Carolyn Kennedy, and holding some of the longest-standing brand accounts on the East Coast, the Upper West Side staple has earned its stripes.
To celebrate Tip Top’s 85th anniversary, sister store West NYC teamed up with adidas Originals to release two special editions: the SL 72 RS and the Women’s Handball Spezial.
The SL 72nd St. is a nod to classic footwear design, featuring rich hairy suede, nylon uppers, and wingtip-inspired detailing—pulling design language from Tip Top’s formal roots. The tongue and insole call back to classic shoe dog mantras with phrases like “toes go in first” and “your feet are in good hands.”
The Women’s Handball Spezial flips the narrative with multicolor bouclé, bringing texture and nostalgia. Inspired by the vibrant suits once worn around the UWS in the '80s and '90s, it blends retro fashion with boutique sneaker culture. A subtle “West Side Best Side” on the heel tab ties it all back to home.
