What inspired the brand name?
I was walking down my high school hallway with a good friend, and we were just going back and fourth on the matter. My name of twitter at the time was NovaClay, i wanted to pay homage to my favourite song at the time Novacane by Frank Ocean. Long story short, got the Nova out of it. I wanted to pay homage to the stars and galaxies that i was very fond of as well.
When I was in middle school, things never fit me the way I wanted them too. It was a very fustrating time, trying to be best dress but cant even wear what you want. I took matters into my own hands, and took the old broken sewing machine in my moms closet, and just went to work. Learned and learned about fashion, and how to create. After that I realized that there is such a thing as a "Designer" and I took interest ever since.
At what moment did you realize you wanted to start a brand?
The moment I made myself a shirt, I instantly fell in love with sewing clothing, and i wanted to create that same feeling for other people. Thats how my brand came to life, I want to create and sew for people who want that special feeling of comfortability.
What is the biggest mistake you have made?
Aha funny that you asked this, Im currently trying to get out of this mistake and is taking peoples words to serious and not taking the right risks. Some simple small mistakes but they make a huge impact in my life.
What is the biggest success you have had?
Well I feel like i haven't had it yet, but people tell me it was when i made it on Highsnobiety.
A source of inspiration people may find weird?
Cartoons and anime's, my obsession for these really drive most my inspiration for my clothing. Can't say to much now, or you'd know the secret aha.
Favorite color to use?
Earthtones, and cream. Love to keep everything earthy.
Are there any retail shops you would love to see you brand in?
I would love to be in a store thats in Toronto, thats under the radar. Something like the store "neighbour" where my clothing would be like a hidden gem, rather than being in a oversaturated retailer.
Another Brand that inspires you and why?
I don't really keep up with brands/fashion that much but I enjoy ACW and Aime Leon Dore.
Where do you see yourself and the brand in 1 year and 5 years?
Somewhere in Toronto or London, being happy. Maybe actually have time for someone, for love. Also a live studio for anyone to come and create with me. I want to be the greatest designer by the time this happens.
