What inspired the brand name?
The Brand name is inspired by the idea and philosophy that everything in life comes full circle if you stick with it. The nation part comes from the fact that FCN isn't just me, its a whole community of artists, creatives and skateboarders, so I wanted to make this brand to highlight myself and all the people I work with on a daily basis.
At what moment did you realize you wanted to start a brand?
I realized I wanted to start a brand when I laid out some of my goals. I'd eventually like to make a recurring magazine and film series, so to do so I wanted something to be able to host all of this. I also realized I have a ton of people around me creating cool stuff, so having a brand would just be a way that people not familiar with us could get into the community of like-minded individuals.
What helps you get over creative blocks?
I get over creative blocks by just drawing and painting for things outside the brand. Or sometimes even making mock-ups for other peoples brands. It allows for me to open up my eyes to new ideas that I wasn't sure might've existed at first.
What is the biggest mistake you have made?
The biggest mistake I've made is bringing on a couple bad apples into the crew. For a while I was working with another local brand, but we weren't getting the sales we wanted and I could feel my brand image conforming to theirs. While I still respect them highly, I've made sure that in the future I stick to the people that I trust with the brand vision when we do collaborations.
What is the biggest success you have had?
The biggest success we've had as a brand is truly making a community of artists. I have people I can reach out to for whatever we may need, whether its photographers, skate clips, new art or anything I have built up a network of awesome artists.
A source of inspiration people may find weird?
As for the brand, I want to highlight potentially boring parts of everyday life and make said objects more interesting in one way or another with our graphics, so if I'm bored a lot of times I may just search up random objects on google and draw based on what I see.
Favorite color to use?
My favorite color to use is bright yellow. I don't quite use it as much as I'd want, but I have a lot of ideas that revolve around the color.
Are there any retail shops you would love to see you brand in?
We are currently working on getting our brand into a few local skateshops around North Carolina, so hopefully in six to eight months time I'll be able to come back to you guys with a short list of stores that stock FCN.
Another Brand that inspires you and why?
Another brand that inspires FCN is GOLF, most definitely because they also do a lot of colorful stuff that really stands out.
Where do you see yourself and the brand in 1 year and 5 years?
In a year I'd like to do more pop-up shops and have the brand in retail stores, really just getting more physical. In 5 years I'd like to be able to do monthly drops for the brand and earning a steady pay check. I'd like to be able to do much more constant pop up events because that seems really fun.
