WHAT INSPIRED THE BRAND NAME?
The name WINDFALL was inspired by my testimony in finding God. It means "unexpected good fortune". This brand is all about glorifying God and sharing the riches of his love with everything we do.
AT WHAT MOMENT DID YOU REALIZE YOU WANTED TO START A BRAND?
I started seriously considering it in high school around 11th grade, but the idea was way underdeveloped. I was just an arrogant teen trying to prove something to the world haha, now I like to think it's a bit more grounded.
WHAT HELPS YOU GET OVER CREATIVE BLOCKS?
Stepping away and doing pretty much anything else. Reading a book, taking a walk, anime, napping, snacking. Just gotta let your mind reset a bit.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU EVER MADE?
When I first started up the brand I made way too much inventory. I took all the guidelines and advice I researched about production too concrete, when I should have taken it with a grain of salt and adapted.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST SUCCESS YOU HAVE HAD?
Hmmm I've gotten Windfall on some high-profile celebs and influencers before which is pretty tight. But honestly, I just love being able to support indie artists and creatives with the brand. Seeing their faces light up with new merch, the mutual love, the hype and encouragement we can give em. That's why we do this.
A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION PEOPLE MAY FIND WEIRD?
Music is a huge inspiration for me. The best music is smooth to listen to, but has great storytelling weaved into it. I have that same philosophy with my designs.
FAVORITE COLOR TO USE?
PURPLE. It's the next wave I promise you.
ARE THERE ANY RETAIL SHOPS YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU BRAND IN?
Local Dallas shops like Neighborhood Goods and Centre and Traffic. That'd be dope. And there's this shop in Busan, Korea called Select Shop I linked up with when I visited last year. I'd love to get some pieces there.
ANOTHER BRAND THAT INSPIRES YOU AND WHY?
I have several haha. First off, I love how Noah incorporates socially conscious messages into their designs. Very few brands can do it without it coming across contrived or preachy, so kudos to them. A smaller more indie brand, Hidden Characters out of Chicago, their branding and aesthetic is on point on every level. I'm so drawn to how they do things, and I still barely understand anything about what they're trying to say. And Visvim, Kapital, and Maharishi I appreciate just for pure aesthetic reasons.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AND THE BRAND IN 1 YEAR AND 5 YEARS?
In the next year we're really focusing on getting all of our brand's fundamentals down. After that, it's all about growth. Taking it full-time in five years with a little chunk of salary would be incredible, but who knows.
IN 5 WORDS OR LESS DESCRIBE YOUR BRAND?
Dope designs that mean something.
