WHAT INSPIRED THE BRAND NAME?
As people grow older, regret is one of the most common shared feelings. Regrets not doing and/or trying new things when they had the chance. The Ghost represents those regrets that come back and haunt us. Hence, There Was A Ghost. With this in mind, we also seek to inspire and empower others to pursue their aspirations and goals.
AT WHAT MOMENT DID YOU REALIZE YOU WANTED TO START A BRAND?
About two years ago. I was in my living room looking at pictures of people’s outfits and I wondered what would it be like if someone was wearing garments I made and they loved them because it made them look good and stylish.
WHAT HELPS YOU GET OVER CREATIVE BLOCKS?
When I’m stuck, or I don’t have an idea of how to execute a vision, I got out and distract myself. Walk around, look at shapes, other clothes, other designs. Sometimes all I need is to clear my head and not think about what I’m working on for a few hours/days. Eventually things come to mind.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU EVER MADE?
I think that the biggest mistake so far was ordering too many shirts for our first release. I didn’t know any better when I was starting and with little to no guidance, it was hard at first to understand how any of this works.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST SUCCESS YOU HAVE HAD?
The biggest success so far is the people that believe in us and our vision. There are a lot of other brands out there, yet, they believed in us, gave us a chance, and supported us. One of our goals is to inspire others to pursue their goals/dreams. I’ve had people messaging me for advice on how to start and pursue their dreams. If TWĀG inspires others to pursue their goals, I consider that a great success.
A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION PEOPLE MAY FIND WEIRD?
This will be rather specific, but have you looked at the bottom of juice/milk cartons? They usually have symbols and color blocks/color patterns at the bottom. This was the inspiration for the color-block.png tees.
FAVORITE COLOR TO USE?
Probably black. I really like how it makes certain designs stand out.
ARE THERE ANY RETAIL SHOPS YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU BRAND IN?
Yes. I would love to see TWĀG in Nordstrom or Saks! Also, at some point in the future I would love to have my own brick and mortar store.
ANOTHER BRAND THAT INSPIRES YOU AND WHY?
There are a couple brands that inspire me. Off White, A Cold Wall, Fxxing Rabbits, HI PANDA, Yeezy, among others. I like the designs, fabrics, consistency, colorways, etc. I feel like I could go on and on about them.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AND THE BRAND IN 1 YEAR AND 5 YEARS?
In one year I hope that TWĀG has a higher reach and exposure. Basically increase the brand awareness. In five years I hope to have my own store that will help provide a unique experience when interacting with our garments. There are a few brands that have used VR and this is something I would love to do and look forward to.
