What inspired the brand name?
I wanted a name that reflected the ethos of the brand, I knew that the label was going to carry the concept of exploring and developing the conversation between garments and design.
For me Hybrid felt like the perfect name to represent my brand ethos in one word.
At what moment did you realize you wanted to start a brand?
I’ve loved both fashion and design for a while now, to combine the both into a product felt like a natural progression.
I decided in late 2016 to develop the brand and launched Hybrid in early 2017.
What helps you get over creative blocks?
If I have creative block or feel burnt out I usually turn to pencil and paper to brainstorm and sketch out ideas.
Taking a break so I can then go back and look at the project with fresh eyes is something I also do if time allows.
What is the biggest mistake you have made?
I don’t feel like I’ve made any mistakes with the brand so far, I do wish that I started using Wordpress earlier as I feel it offers more flexibility over the other Website builders I’ve used in the past.
What is the biggest success you have had?
Every sale is a success to me, to make products that people want to invest in is what proud of most.
A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION PEOPLE MAY FIND WEIRD?
I feel like when you’re a creative anything can inspire you such as a crack in the pavement.
Favorite color to use?
Black. I think it’s really easy to wear, it feels both timeless and modern.
ARE THERE ANY RETAIL SHOPS YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU BRAND IN?
I’m really happy with the stockists that currently carry Hybrid, we have really good relationships and understand each others brands well.
I’m currently working with some new stockists that will carry Hybrid soon which I’m excited about.
Colette would have been an amazing stockist which I would’ve loved to have worked with, DSM or Liberty London would be really cool.
ANOTHER BRAND THAT INSPIRES YOU AND WHY?
Neil Barrett, I love this approach to clothing.
Where do you see yourself and the brand in 1 year and 5 years?
Throughout the year I just want to constantly progress and develop Hybrid, I’m beginning to do more in-house which I feel will help grow the brand.
Within 5 years aside from the product, I’d like to work with more stockists and potentially introduce more interactive elements such as events.
In 5 words or less describe your brand?
A conversation of design.
