What inspired the brand name?
Long answer is that I created the brand after finding the confidence that clothing can give a person which led me to calling it Brovado a spin on the actual word "bravado" meaning a kinda confidence or arrogance. Short answer is how Kanye described it in his song dark fantasy, "We found Bravery in my Brovado".
At what moment did you realize you wanted to start a brand?
When i had ideas of clothes that I wanted but seeing that they hadn't really been made before.
What helps you get over creative blocks?
I often look at artists from the past, most commonly Jean-MichelBasquiat and Andy Warhol and looking at their work usually helps me think outside the box and try some new stuff.
What is the biggest mistake you have made?
Spending a lot of money to have a booth at a local sneaker event where I sold a whopping zero pieces. Its whatever I see it as a learning experience that led to me thrusting myself into the design of the new collection.
What is the biggest success you have had?
I think definitely the first collection went really well in my eye, I like to describe it as worse than I ad hoped but better than expected when asked about it. Overall for a young brand testing the waters it went very well.
A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION PEOPLE MAY FIND WEIRD?
It's for sure the inspiration of Basquiat, looking at his work its very abstract and crazy and frankly all over the place in comparison the the rather simple aesthetic of my brand, but his work truly is a main inspiration whenever I'm designing a new collection or drawing fits to include i a look book. I think in the fall/winter collection of this year his influence will be more apparent.
Favorite color to use?
Black, the best color there is really it goes with everything. You can dress it up, you can dress it down, extremely versatile.
Are there any retail shops you would love to see you brand in?
I'd love to branch into retail sales as the brand grows and that's one of the things i'm looking forward to during the coming years.
ANOTHER BRAND THAT INSPIRES YOU AND WHY?
It's easy to say Louis Vuitton or Gucci but truly I would have to say Vetements or Kapital due to their designs and innovations in the streetwear world, but id like to mention a smaller brand called Iridium that has really grown itself through true grind and hustle and has multiple shops Chicago and one location inAtlanta I believe.
Where do you see yourself and the brand in 1 year and 5 years?
In one year i'll be releasing spring/summer of next year and I'm hoping I will be able to grow a presence in the streetwear industry as well as being sold in multiple retail locations. 5 years is a long time but I'm hoping to have all the things I said in 1 year but at a larger scale as well as establishing a brick and mortar store as well as collaborating with other brands.
