Story mfg. Sun Fades Its Jupiter Jacket, Tumble Skirt and Distillers Shirt for the R.T.S. Capsule

Story mfg. has dropped its R.T.S. Sun Faded Capsule this week, and it’s a good reminder that slow clothes can still hit hard. Nothing here is chemically washed or machine distressed. Each piece is scrunched a set way and left out in the sun, so every one gets its own fade, and that fade keeps shifting as you wear it.
The pieces and the dyes

The headliner is the Jupiter Jacket, sun faded for the first time. It’s a padded, oversized, workwear-inspired hooded jacket in naturally dyed cotton canvas with 100% cotton wadding. The fit is boxy, with a two-way zip, two front pockets, buttoned cuffs, drawcords on the hood and hem, a zipped internal pocket and a hand-embroidered cross-stitch logo on the chest. It comes in S to L in six colours, and the CO-49SF dark brown, dyed with babul bark and iron, is £575 on the UK site. The CO-80SF deep black uses myrobalan and iron.
The Tumble Skirt is a calf-length A-line in 100% organic cotton, with an asymmetric gathered seam, side pockets and a natural elasticated waist. It runs XS to XL in four colours, including madder root red and jackfruit yellow. The Distillers Shirt is a wide, slightly cropped cotton-linen piece in long and short sleeve. The long sleeve in CO-200ASF is £315.

That CO-200ASF dusty purple is natural indigo layered over madder root. Madder fades toward pink faster than indigo fades, so over time the colour should drift toward a grey-blue. Care is simple: hand wash in cool water with pH neutral soap and air dry. Expect some dye rub-off on light-coloured clothes early on.

Where to get it, and what’s next
The capsule is live on the Story mfg. online store. It’s coming in batches because the fading takes so much time and labour, and the brand isn’t sure when more can be faded, so don’t assume a restock.
If you’re in New York, the Rambling Club Open Weekend lands at the NYC Clubhouse on Nov 10, 6pm to 9pm, at Blue in Green, 8 Greene St, with early access on offer. London’s Clubhouse runs Nov 7 and 8 at the Story mfg. Studio in E8. Also on the way in November is a second Story mfg. x Asics collaboration, the GEL-TRANSCEND FJ, based on 1990s Asics hiking and walking shoes.
