What inspired the brand name?

The name POSTHUMAN comes from a sci-fi term referring to an entity with capabilities surpassing those of humans. I thought it was a cool and relevant concept, especially because of the time we live in where everything advances so rapidly.

At what moment did you realize you wanted to start a brand?

I’ve wanted to have a brand since I was a sophomore or junior in high school (around 2009 or 2010). I didn’t end up actually going for it until I graduated from college in 2015. I started my first brand that I ran for a couple of years until I wanted to work on something new, which began my concept for POSTHUMAN.

What helps you get over creative blocks?

I’m really indecisive when it comes to designs; I’m constantly tweaking things that nobody would ever notice unless they had seen previous iterations. When I find myself paralyzed with options, I don’t work on the designs for a few days and occupy my mind with other things. When I come back to the drawing board, I can look with fresh eyes.

What is the biggest mistake you have made?

Not being consistent with releases. This is more of a mistake with my first brand, since the first POSTHUMAN drop was in February.

What is the biggest success you have had?

I recently got stocked at a shop in Malaysia, which to me is my biggest success. Shoutout the good people at Transit KL!

A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION PEOPLE MAY FIND WEIRD?

Fantasy and mythology.

Favorite color to use?

Black

ARE THERE ANY RETAIL SHOPS YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU BRAND IN?

I love all of the shops showing love to underground brands. I really want to break into the Japanese retail scene just so I have an excuse to travel there more.

Where do you see yourself and the brand in 1 year and 5 years?

1 Year: I’m hoping to have a wider range of products released, including cut and sew pieces. Also be stocked in a few more stores.

5 Years: Hopefully doing this full time with my own office/warehouse.

In 5 words or less describe your brand?

Subtle, esoteric, nostalgic, and considered.
